NBL Grands

Well it has came and went….NBL Grands is over, and man what a weekend. Coming into grands I was sitting #1 in national points for cruiser, 10 points ahead of 2nd. We left Thursday night after work around 7:30 and mad the 10 hr trip to Louisville, KY. We arrived at the track with one hr before practice….so we were pretty beat. Practice went good and I dialed in the track pretty quick. The track was very sweet, nice jumps and suppppppppper fast. Undoubtedly one of the best tracks I have ever ridden. There was a sick step up leading into the second turn that rocketed you around the turn down the third straight.
So after a good night sleep we arrived back at the track at 7:30 for opening ceremonies. Racing started promptly at 8 and I was up moto 12 for class and 239 for cruiser. First class round came up and I was feeling good, all the nerves were gone and I was ready to race. The first gate was great and I came out of the first turn in second. I pushed for first all the way to the line but stayed put with a solid first score. Cruiser was a little bit more important being that I was going in sitting # 1 in points. I pulled a great start and lead it wire to wire. This was a HUGE confidence booster because I had some pretty fast people in my moto. Second 20 inch moto I snapped a great gate but was on the outside and came out of the first turn in third. I passed a guy for 2nd place in the second straight, but he got back around me right at the line. Second round of cruiser pretty much went the same, good gate and won wire to wire. Then it was rest time. They only did the first two motos for everyone on Saturday and then headed into the pro classes. The pro races were pretty exciting. A lot of good racing and good crashes too.
Sunday came and there was a nice 40% chance of rain on the day, so we were all praying that the rain held off so we could get the racing in. I was up early in class and it was a good one. Popped a great gate and pushed for first all the way to the line but came up about a half a wheel short. So I was set for quarters going in with a 2-3-2. Cruiser third moto went the same as the first two. I was feeling soooooooo good on that bike all weekend and really felt untouchable. I popped a great gate and it was over before it even began. So with a 1-1-1 I was heading into the semis with a lot of confidence and a good points lead for the national title.
Quarters in twenty went great. I pulled gate 2 which was awesome considering the first straight favored the inside. I pulled a AWESOME gate and got to the first turn ahead of everyone. I lead the quarter wire to wire beating out some fast guys. Semi’s rolled around and I was feeling good. I had a outside gate but I was not worried cause I knew I could do it. I snapped a good gate but got ran high in turn one and came out in 5th. All I had to do was pass one guy for a spot in the main when disaster struck. As I landed off a jump going into turn two my bars fell about 2 inches and were pretty much laying in my lap. I tried not to let that mess me up to much and stayed right with 4th, as I pulled even with him going down the 3rd straight. I went to pass him in the last turn when I almost got punted over the turn from behind…..so needless to say I didn’t make the main in class and was pretty upset…one because of my bars and two the dirty move that a guy put on me, that was completely unnecessary. So all I had left to do was to concentrate on cruiser. I snapped a great gate and lead everyone to the first turn, and that was pretty much it….the race was mine from there. So now with a good finish in the main…the title was mine. There was one person on cruiser I had not got to race yet and he is definitely my most stiff competition. Super nice guy from Cali that I have race before and lost but I knew I was a lot stronger that I was last time I raced him.
So here it was main time for cruiser. I was not nervous at all going in to the main event cause I knew I had what it takes to bring that number 1 plate back home to PA. Going into the main the championship was pretty much wrapped up since the guys that were behind me in points did not make the main. So really all I had to do was go out and finish, but you know that’s not how I wanted it to go down. I started in gate 5 and Tuttle was in gate 7. I snapped the best gate of my life and had him to the first step up….but when I manualled the first step up Tuttle pedal manualled it and got a wheel on me going to the first turn. I tried everything to get around him but he is a fast competitor and hard to pass when he is going just as fast as I was. So I pushed him all the way to the line but came up a little bit short. Never the less it was a great race and I was happy as ever. I finished second in the race but the national title was mine. Now I know what I need to work on for the next time Tuttle and I get to race again at ABA grands in November.
So now we are on the way home….sitting in traffic. It was a great ride and I could not have done it with all the love and support from Arian. She was a trooper enduring the sleepless weekend and helping me out with everything. I could not have done it without her. I would also like to thank the Deluxx family for all the support so far this year. Sorry this was so long winded but a lot happened this weekend…LOL. Hope everyone is doing well and had a great weekend. I will leave you with a picture I will treasure the rest of my life…and many more to come.

The fastest rider does not always win

Well just got home from Milford, Delaware for the ABA first state national. All and all the weekend went well. I rode smart and stayed healthy. I was not sure if I was going to be able to race because of crashing and aggravating my shoulder again. Saturday I was bumped down to 21-25 cruiser and had two good people to race. Which is good, cause I hate when there is not anyone to race hard with. I didn't qualify first round but made it to the main second round pretty easy. In 19-27x we had 2 groups 14 riders. I had a decent start and qualified first round behind Tony. Mains rolled around and I was pinned on the outside for cruiser. I had a decent start and went into the first turn third. I noticed they two in front of me were getting close in the second turn so I high-lowed and came out in second cause one person crashed. The last two straights were sprints, with two rhythm sections. I came out of the last turn and threw down and passed for first about half way down the last straight. The 19-27x main I had a bad start and got pinched down the front straight. Going into the second turn I was in 4th and left the door open and I got pushed way high and almost over the berm. The race was over at that point. I put it out of my mind and we went out with the luxxy crew to olive garden for dinner.

Sunday rolled around and it rained over night so the track was pretty soft in spots. I picked up another rider on cruiser so I had total points. I won all three rounds pretty easy. Red bone was calling me out in the last round cause I cased a step up and sat down....so I threw him an x-up to make up for it. Class was another story. I felt like crap on my 20" all day. I had a reallllllly bad gate and just sat up the first round. The next round rolled around and I was a little more determined. I snapped a great gate and won that round. For the main I was pinned on the outside with gate 7, luckily I had a good buddy Josh Gay next to me in 8. I snapped a great gate but I spun off the line but recovered pretty quick. I was third going into the first turn and got pushed up pretty high. I stay up there and tucked into 4th. I saw some carnage getting ready to go down in the second turn so I pulled a high low again and as I though two people took them selves out. I pulled up next to first down the rhythm and then the legs kicked in. Down the last straight I pulled into first. It was a great day even though I felt like crap. When I needed it most the good lord gave me the strength. Deluxx got second both days for our team sheet. So it was a great weekend for the team. I would like to thank all that made it happen. I will leave you with a video of the two mains today.

Busy Week

Well today is my Friday...woo hoo. I am leaving tomorrow for the ABA national at First State BMX in Delaware. The week has flew by, I have been working alot this week...spending more time working than I have at home. I went to watch Gary Greene and Chris Zambito graduate from high school Tuesday, thats about the only night I have not worked this week. I have two training I am teaching next week so I have been coming in to work at 6 a.m. everyday to get my powerpoints done. Then leaving work and getting the Balkovics bikes ready. They are leaving for Mammoth, California Friday for a race. I hope everything goes well, they seem real amped up to go.
The graduation went well. We went back to Gary's house to hang out with his family and eat some crabs and shrimp, which were awesome. Well I better get back to work. I am posting my powerpoint on here just in case any of my friends need some outlook help. LOL. I hope everybody has good, safe, and blessed weekend. Please pray that I can come home without any bumps, bruises, or scrapes. LOL

Long Ride

Weekend went well. I made an adult decision (I know kinda scary) and took the weekend off. Last weekend I crashed twice, once Saturday and once Sunday. Dug my head into the ground both days. Sunday when I crashed I aggravated my shoulder again so I decided to let it rest since First State national is this up coming weekend. So I took off and went on a few road bike rides. I put in 30 miles on Saturday and 25 miles on Sunday. I was planning on riding to Gettysburg, but my directions were way off and I got lost. LOL. I rode home, then Kelly and I packed the dogs up and went to Gettysburg. We started on a walk but it was to hot for the girls so we ended up driving around to all of the sites. It was fun. I want to go back sometime and spend a lot of time there. I am very interested in the civil war and enjoy seeing all of the memorials. I plan on riding to work this week Tuesday and Wednesday. Then we are leaving Friday morning for Delaware.

So now I am preparing for the national this weekend. It should be good. UCI race so I can see a lot of people coming in for this one. I hope my shoulder holds out for me and the racing goes good. I
